Abstract

In Malaysia, water pollution is one of the major environmental problems facing the society at present, especially river water pollution. Despite their importance, especially as supply of water for consumption, rivers are continually being polluted by human. One of the main contributors to river water pollution in Malaysia is effluent (wastewater) discharge from industries. At present many of the measures exercised by various government agencies to control industry-related river water pollution centt:e on the use of non-land use approaches such as enforcement of legislation and use of technology. However, the use of non-land use approaches is not without its own shortcomings. Hence, this paper aims to provide some insights into the possibility of using land use approaches to achieve the same result, which is controlling industry-related river water pollution.
